TORRANCE, Calif. — Expect to pay more for the redesigned 2008 Honda Accord sedan and coupe when the cars arrive in showrooms on September 12. Honda said on Monday that its 2008 Accord sedan will carry a starting price of $20,995, including a $635 destination charge. That reflects a $1,775 increase over the outgoing 2007 model.

The Accord coupe also gets a price increase of $1,425 over the 2007 base model.

A top-of-the-line 2008 Accord EX-L V6 sedan with navigation and a five-speed automatic transmission will start at $30,895, including shipping. A top-of-the-line 2008 Accord EX-L V6 coupe with navigation and either a six-speed manual transmission or a five-speed automatic transmission starts at $31,145, including shipping.

Honda notes that the Accord's optional 3.5-liter V6 engine churns out 268 horsepower, "the most ever for any Accord." New standard features on V6 models include variable cylinder management on automatic-transmission models, a 24-hp increase, audio system enhancements and foglights. For 2008, all models equipped with the 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine add vehicle stability assist.

The Honda Accord sedan is stretched for the new model year. It is 3 inches longer than the 2007 model, with an overall length of 194.1 inches. The 2008 Accord coupe's wheelbase, at 107.9 inches, is 2.8 inches longer than the 2007 model.

What this means to you: The new Accord grows — in dimensions and in price.
