CENTER LINE, Mich. — In what may be the automotive understatement of the month, Mopar on Wednesday rolled out a giant chrome grille for the Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Wrangler Unlimited that it says makes a “bold statement.” The grille kit, which includes a Jeep emblem, hood seal and fasteners, is priced at $299.

The chrome grille “dresses up the Jeep Wrangler so it’s sure to turn heads on the trail or at a red-carpet event,” said Chris Cortez, Chrysler’s global service and parts senior vice president. Actually, it appears to take a page out of the Hummer playbook.

Mopar notes that the chrome grille “doesn’t affect the Wrangler’s cooling system performance.”

What this means to you: If you’re a Wrangler owner, it’s either going to be your must-have accessory of the year or totally sacrilegious.
