TOKYO — Lexus taunted fans of its IS-F sport sedan at the recent Tokyo Auto Salon with a race-ready vehicle called the IS-F Racing Concept.
The design suggests that the IS-F Racing Concept is ready for the German Touring Car Masters, also known as DTM. But the truth is that the IS-F Racing Concept is only a design study — or an excuse to build a track-ready IS-F — with Lexus having no plans to enter DTM.
Details are lacking on what kind of powertrain or suspension modifications may be gracing this concept that was championed by IS-F project chief Yukihiko Yaguchi. The seriously wide-body kit allows larger wheels and tires to grab the track, while a front splitter and huge rear spoiler are designed to manage airflow and create massive downforce.
What this means to you: While Lexus says there are no plans to race this IS-F concept, it sure looks like the designers had the intention of seeing it run around a track somewhere. — Eric Tingwall, Correspondent
