DETROIT — The Cadillac CTS Coupe concept at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show was so well received, enthusiast tongues wagged immediately about the possibility of a 2010 CTS Coupe production car. The next logical step? Supercharging the striking new coupe to the same specifications as the 2009 CTS V-Series sedan.
Cadillac has already said the coupe will easily accommodate the current CTS engines as well as the 2.9-liter diesel V6 intended for use in Europe, so dropping in the supercharged 6.2-liter V8 from the CTS-V sedan shouldn’t be much of a stretch.
The CTS-V sedan gets a unique hood to cover the bigger engine, so expect to see a similar change if the CTS-V Coupe gets the go-ahead. It’s also likely to lose the single, large grille for two distinctive mesh-covered grilles instead. With production of the standard CTS Coupe scheduled to begin next spring, the V-Series CTS Coupe probably wouldn’t show up until the fall of 2009 at the earliest.
What this means to you: If you think the CTS V-Series sedan looks promising, the coupe version could be an even more potent performance package. — Kelly Toepke, News Editor
