CREWE, England — Bentley on Thursday said it will raise prices on all models in the U.K. by 5 percent starting in April. But its U.S. arm told Inside Line that a price increase here is not in the works — for now.
“No price changes have been announced for the U.S.,” said David Reuter, Bentley’s U.S. spokesman, in response to an e-mail query from Inside Line. “Currency fluctuations dictated the rise in the U.K.”
The price increase in the U.K. covers the entire Bentley lineup, including all Continental models, the Arnage lineup, the Azure T and the Brooklands. A Bentley Continental GT will start at the U.S. equivalent of $175,017, while the Bentley Brooklands will start at $334,161.
“We are reacting to the continued very low value of sterling against the euro,” said Stuart McCullough, Bentley board member for sales and marketing. “As a U.K. business with much of our component costs based in euros, we have to address the fact that our costs have increased significantly given sterling’s dramatic decline.
“A 5 percent price increase at a time of reduced demand and therefore reduced production may seem counterintuitive, but sterling has depreciated by over 18 percent against the euro over the last 12 months.”
The price increase will apply to all new orders received after March 31.
